Solva Woollen Mill was established at its current location in 1907. It is the oldest working woollen mill in Pembrokeshire, and the only mill in Wales specialising in weaving flat woven floor rugs and runners. We are a family run business, that proudly uses traditional Dobcross looms, and skills passed though generations, to weave and create our own designs of floor rugs and runners. As a small niche business, our products can be found in a few very select outlets. These include many of The Landmark Trust properties, outlets in London and Ledbury, and even some royal residencies.
Our floor rugs and runners are all woven using 100% British wool. We create timeless, classic designs that are both hard wearing, practical and bring comfort and luxury to any room. We have a website where you can see a small proportion of our designs, and we highly recommend a visit to the mill to see a wider selection. We weave a range of standard classic rugs and runners that are always in stock. In addition to this, the weavers create one off designs that are small limited edition runs, and only available from the mill directly.
You can watch the mill working on weekdays and see how we weave our products. If you're coming especially to see the weaving, it might be worth checking ahead of your visit to see which day the weavers will be operating the looms to avoid any disappointment.
The original mill building has been refurbished, and is now home to the beautiful mill shop. We sell our own products, and the owners are usually on hand to discuss any specific queries you may have regarding stair runners and rugs sizes. The other quality products we sell are all carefully sourced from other small businesses in the UK. There is a tearoom, with seating, where you can enjoy delicious locally made cakes, or you can relax in the outdoor seating area beside the original waterwheel that has been restored.
Solva Woollen Mill now also has an outlet in St Davids. The building used to be the old police station, but it has been converted into a stylish High Street shop, located just along from the visitor centre. It is stocked with a similar range of high quality products and is open 7 days a week. Check the mills website for exact opening times.
