With 700 years of history, Picton Castle has medieval original with magnificent Georgian interiors. Wander through beautifully furnished rooms, admire original art and antiques and visit one of only two perfectly round libraries in the UK.
The gardens are 50 ares of tranquil beauty and a haven for nature lovers. Explore the Walled Garden, ancient woodlands and sweeping 19th century parkland. Relax under the trees or picnic with stunning views. Discover the Garden Museum, vintage lawn mower collection, and our Physic and Wildlife Gardens. Short-listed in the the Historic House, Garden of the Year award 2024.
For family adventures don't miss our Jungle Boardwalk, the newly revamped maze and Adventure Playground and the ever popular Jungle Boardwalk. Enjoy the free family activities, seasonal trials, geocaching and summer lawn games or simply run across our expansive lawns. Never to be beaten by a less than perfect summer's day, we have a family room with board games children's activities, a pre-loved book shop, toy museum, weaving workshop and new exhibition on the history of the castle (coming spring 2025).
Working up an appetite in the gardens means you can visit the delicious (and locally famous) restaurant and cafe at Picton. Serving delicious hot and cold food, cakes, snacks and ice cream all day.
The castle and gardens are open every day all year. Admission includes entry to the castle and lasts for 7 days.

Visitors can explore the caste at their own leisure. You can see all the principal rooms on the ground floor, the kitchens and medieval Undercroft. Volunteer room stewards are on hand to help and are very knowledgeable about the castle and its history.
For those who wish to learn more, guided tours are available most days but please check before arrival. Guided tours are a small additional charge (£5 for adults and £4 per child). The tour includes a visit to the chapel which cannot otherwise be visited. Free guided tours are available on Mondays (excluding the school holidays).

Approximately 65% of the gardens are accessible to wheelchairs. On these paths the surface is hard pressed gravel. All of the most popular areas of the garden such as the Walled Garden, Jungle garden, Courtyard, the Blue Bell woods and area around the castle are wheelchair accessible. The outer areas of the gardens are less suitable, as these areas are mostly still on 19th century path systems with coarser surfaces and some steps.
Disabled parking is close to the entrance from the car park.

There are four all terrain wheelchairs on site free for visitors use.
In the castle the principal rooms to view are fully accessible to both wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. Please be aware that the accessibility access to the castle includes quite a steep slope up to the front door. The bedrooms and chapel are inaccessible to wheelchairs. Unfortunately, mobility scooters are not allowed in the castle (due to the configuration of the building) without making a prior arrangement. Please contact us before your visit to arrange. There is a wheelchair in the castle for visitors to borrow.Assistance dogs are welcome inside the castle (please ensure they are wearing their working harness).
