Preseli Venture Eco Barn and Courtyard Cottages

The Preseli Venture Eco Barn and Courtyard Cottages offer a range of beautifully presented self-catering accommodation in a wooded valley on the wild North Pembrokeshire coast, just a 20-minute walk to Abermawr beach. Perfect for couples, families and small groups. Conveniently nestled between St David's and Fishguard.

About Preseli Venture Eco Barn and Courtyard Cottages

THE ECO BARN

The sleek, light and spacious eco barn is a brand-new addition to Preseli Venture’s range of accommodation. The barn stands apart from the courtyard cottages and sleeps from 4 to 8 guests across 4 bedrooms. It's the perfect rural retreat for larger families or groups of friends or families or those wanting more of their own space.

The magic of the eco barn comes to life in the light and airy open-plan upstairs living area, with its iconic east-facing circular “rose window”, high wood-panelled ceiling and sociable spaces for relaxation and dining. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors leading onto a balcony area are met with corner windows, resulting in stunning panoramic views of the North Pembrokeshire coastline, the rocky volcanic outcrop of Garn Fawr and the Abermawr Valley. The west-facing balcony is an incredible place to take in spectacular sunsets in the evening.

THE COURTYARD COTTAGES

The iconic marshmallow-pink cottage complex is built around a traditional Welsh farmhouse courtyard, nestled on the hillside of the Abermawr Valley above the ancient National Trust woodland which winds down to the sea.

In 2025 two self-catering courtyard cottages will become available, one x 4-bedroom and one x 1-bedroom, each with its own kitchen facilities and lovely living space. The new courtyard cottages will welcome all sorts of adventurers; couples, solo travellers, small families, large families and group gatherings.

There are private garden areas for individual cottages but the larger outdoor spaces, such as the lawn and courtyard, will continue to offer a sense of vibrant community where children can play and roam freely whilst adults can get together for a local brew around the bonfire.

LOCATION

Deep in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Preseli Venture’s eco barn and cottages offer a spectacular setting for a memorable adventurous break.

The eco barn and cottages are a one-mile walk to the secluded, unspoilt sand-and-shingle beach of Abermawr as well as the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail. Both venues offer breathtaking views of the wild North Pembrokeshire coastline, as well as the wild woodland and peaceful countryside surrounding it.

Pack your telescopes - this remotely situated accommodation lies in an official Dark Skies area of Wales, meaning it's an incredible spot for stargazing without the glare of light pollution.

The eco barn & cottages are situated just outside the village of Mathry, just 5 miles from Fishguard (where you can arrive by train) and 9 miles from the smallest cathedral city in the UK, St David’s, a famous pilgrimage destination for those seeking to explore Welsh history and legend.

Preseli Venture is conveniently located on the final stretch of Wales’ well-traversed ‘Coastal Way’, an epic 180-mile journey which stretches from the Western tip of the mountainous LLyn Peninsula to the St David’s peninsula.

Directions

By Car

  • Take the M4 west as far as it goes past Swansea, and then join the A48 to Carmarthen.
  • At Carmarthen take the A40 west towards St Clears, and continue on the A40 to Haverfordwest.
  • From Haverfordwest take the A40 towards Fishguard for 9 miles, until you reach Letterston and then TURN LEFT onto the B4331, sign posted for Mathry.
  • Continue for 5 miles, until the B road meets at a junction with the A487; the Fishguard to St Davids road.
  • Cross over the A487, and then turn IMMEDIATELY right down a single-track lane – CAUTION drive slowly down this narrow and twisty road! We are the first place you come to on the left, about 2/3 of a mile down the lane (ignore any other earlier farm tracks!). For the campsite take the first entrance on the left, for the eco barn take the second entrance on the left, and for the courtyard cottages, take the third exit on the left.

By Train

Buy your train tickets as soon as you can, as you can get cheaper deals. For advance train tickets use www.tfwrail.wales or greatwestern or www.thetrainline.com or call Great Western on 0345 7000 125 or Transport for Wales on 0333 321 1202. You can also purchase tickets at any British Rail station.

Wherever you are travelling from, you have to get to Swansea in South Wales, and from here you get connections onto the West Wales line out to Fishguard or Haverfordwest.

Local Train Stations

Our nearest train station is “Fishguard and Goodwick” which is just 5 miles away or a 10-minute drive. From here, you can take a taxi or a local bus which will drop you at the end of our lane one mile away.

The other local station is Haverfordwest which is 15 miles away. Taxis are available from here to transfer you to the Preseli Eco Barn and Courtyard Cottages.

We would always recommend travelling into ‘Fishguard and Goodwick’ whenever possible as it’s much closer, but trains only run 5 times each day to this station, so sometimes you may need to use Haverfordwest. To avoid any confusion with your return or round trip tickets, we can confirm that tickets for ‘Fishguard and Goodwick’ and Haverfordwest are interchangeable, so you can arrive into either station and depart from either station and your ticket is valid.

By Bus

The eco barn is just 5 minute’s walk down our narrow lane from the main coastal road the A487 and Mathry village just 15 minutes walk. The local bus service the T11 runs between Fishguard and St David’s so this service can be used to access the lodge, getting off at Mathry junction or Mathry village. For people travelling from further away in Wales, take the T5 long distance bus to Fishguard and then transfer onto the T11 to reach Mathry and Preseli Venture.
